Frey am1000 V6 arrived and assembled in Iceland and probably the first pic outside of China I imagine. Everything looking great so far have just taken it around the block. The group I ordered with, ordered prior to them being announced so hopefully those of you waiting they will start to arrive soon.

The quality of the CC and the power of the Ultra is an amazing combo. Full suspension and it rides like a cadillac. Changed bars to Jones and added a Satori Turn up stem to fine tune bar placement. It is almost perfect. It will be after I change the pedals.

The AM1000 arrived today! (Repost follows, apologies to anyone reading it twice.)

Box was not scarred much at all (damage\loss in shipping was one of my worries). Everything inside was wrapped & packed very well, including our second battery.

No instructions whatsoever except for the Magura brakes!

Need a shock pump & a balance charger, to make sure everything’s ready to ride. (Rear suspension needs more pressure, to bear my >250 lbs weight; no problem as it’s nowhere near max pressure yet. New batteries should be tested & leveled!)

The pedal assist is much smoother than some user reviews led me to expect. The bike is fully rideable while turned off, so I hope to be able to set Pedal ASsist level 0, to offer about 5-10% power. (No need for PAS 0; I can just turn it off, for that!?) Using the throttle lever from a standstill feels abrupt, but once rolling it actually has quite a bit more fine control than user reports led me to believe. Pedal assist takes about a half turn of the cranks at reasonable pedal speed, before power kicks in. I had no issues with run-on yet.

As far as I can tell from one brief test, the motor power cutoffs for brake & shifter work instantly & power returns in a predictable fashion.

It’s quite heavy for a typical bicycle, but only about twice the weight of my 29er with chain+lock. I personally have no trouble lifting it with one arm, so far. (After a long ride might be different!) The ‘Walk’ mode made taking it up the stairs effectively effortless.

I definitely want a riser handlebar stem (wasn’t sure ’til I stood on it) & may not care about getting a dropper seatpost, since the double pivot rear suspension feels really plush so far (actually hoping to firm it up a lot once it’s at proper pressure).

The display indicates that in the 2km it’s been ridden during testing at Frey, it got up to what it thinks is 77kmh/47mph… If that’s accurate, maybe I won’t want a larger chainring (or longer cranks)! 45mph should be more than adequate for any of our needs! (Beyond that, forget ‘non-motorized’ 750 Watt limits & get a ‘motorcycle’.)

Today being the 11th, I received the ebike 4 days before it was originally expected to ship.

Getting let into port seemed to take over a week; then there was no more good info at all while it got unloaded & sent through customs, until it was handed over to FedEx.

Once FedEx received it on Friday 2021-10-08, it crossed ~1050 miles by Sunday morning, bounced nonsensically between three cities in the metro area, & arrived at my door this afternoon.

Everyone here is eager to try riding it. I suspect it will fulfill each of our use cases very well; may order more or similar!

Update: A very fine ebike indeed! After a bit of tuning (calibrate your torque sensitivity!) it rides even better. Hardly anyone else has gotten to ride it yet… ] ; >

There’s routing for a dropper seatpost I didn’t get. Conspicuity lighting may route there instead.

The black is a very matte black.

  8. New bike day - Frey AM1000 - Bafang Ultra 1000w

    TenMilePt

Bike is a beast. 160mm front and rear travel. 4 piston Magura hydraulic brakes. 2.75″ 27.5 super grippy tires. 20Ah Samsung internal battery mated to the Bafang Ultra 1000w nominal (1500w peak) torque sensing motor. Despite this bike tipping the scales at 70lbs it handles like a much lighter bike and I can throw it around the trails. Its quite the machine to ride!!!

It’s a good bike. Really have not had any issues. Broke a chain once but that was my fault. I did change the motor tuning and torque sensor sensitivity. Would recommend.

Update: I got my bike over a week ago via LTL freight.. I absolutely love it. The quality is evident throughout the bike. Suspension is amazing. Shifts are butter smooth. Brakes are monsters and you better hold on. Power is very strong. I highly recommend the AM1000 or any Frey product for that matter. It is worth the hassle dealing with China for something this nice. Good luck duplicating Frey quality for the price.

Shipping cost was included in the price of the bike thankfully. Ordered 12/30, Frey factory closed for a month for Chinese New Year, and shipped out on 3/11. Frey has sent me updates through the stages of shipping. It was on a boat from China for about 6 weeks and is now at the port in California. Few weeks more for customs to approve and now a UPS label has been printed. I am impatiently waiting for it to leave LA and make it to Kansas City. Frey shipping experiences have varied fro 30 to 90 days from what I’ve heard.

So my AM1000 just shipped 2 days ago and I live in Kansas City. I have asked for an ETA from Frey but nothing. Anyone have a guess on when it would make it to the middle of the US? I can’t wait to ride this bike so the wait is killing me. I don’t know if it’s going to be 30, 60, 90 days? Anyone have a guess with their experience with Frey group buying directly from Frey not Alibaba? ETA?

Cong… Oh ship! Anecdotally: A cargo vessel carrying the Frey AM1000 we ordered, is scheduled to depart tomorrow; expected to arrive at port in California by the 12th.

This ebike was originally scheduled to ship by Oct 16th, so I’m feeling pretty good about it!rats man!!

Hey, I have the same bike! I’m considering removing the rear rack but note that the mudguard has a screw that fastens into the rack. Without the rack do you have any problems with the guard rattling/flopping?

Also, I highly recommend getting a dropper post.

If I was to ever get a true eMTB, Frey would be the company I purchased from. Aside from the overseas logistics issues people sometimes experience, I’ve heard and read nothing but positive comments about their bikes. Best of luck with it!
